What Are Your Terms and Conditions, Reservation and Cancellation Policies?

 

Reservation Policies – House 5863

Payment & Refund Policy
All reservations are 100% prepaid at the time of booking using a valid credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express).

All reservations are non-refundable and non-transferable.

All cancellation or change requests must be submitted in writing via email to info@house5863.com
 or by fax to (773-856-6201), Attn: Cancellation/Change.

Approved reservation changes are subject to a $150 change fee and availability.

A 5% credit card processing fee will be applied to all transactions.

Security Deposit & Property Fee
A $175 authorization hold will be placed on your credit card before arrival for incidentals and damages.

Unused funds will be released within 7–10 business days after checkout (excluding weekends and holidays).
Any damages or incidentals will be deducted from this amount.

A non-refundable $45 Property Fee is applied to each reservation.

Check-In / Check-Out

Check-in: 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Check-out: 11:00 AM

Guests arriving after 11:00 PM must notify us in advance to arrange accommodations.

Minimum Stay Requirements
A 2-night minimum stay is required for:

Weekends (March 1 – November 30)
Holidays, including Christmas and New Years

We reserve the right to modify minimum stay requirements based on availability.

Parking Policy

Street parking is generally available but limited after 10:00 PM. Guests must follow all posted parking regulations.
Garage parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis:
$45/night (Spring & Summer)
$55/night (Fall & Winter)

Parking must be requested at the time of booking or via email.

All parking reservations are non-refundable.

Property Rules

No pets allowed in guest rooms or common areas
No guests under 18 years old permitted

Failure to comply may result in cancellation of your stay without refund.

Arbitration Agreement
All disputes arising from your reservation or stay shall be resolved through binding arbitration in Illinois under the rules of the American Arbitration Association.

Each party is responsible for its own legal costs
Arbitration replaces the right to a court trial or jury trial
Claims may not be brought as part of a class action

At our sole discretion, we may elect to resolve a dispute by issuing a refund of amounts paid, which will constitute full settlement of the claim.

Video & Audio Recording Policy

For the safety and security of our guests and property, video surveillance is in use in common areas of the premises, including but not limited to entrances, hallways, and shared spaces.

No surveillance is conducted in private areas, including guest rooms and bathrooms.

Audio recording, where enabled, is limited to common areas only and is used solely for safety and security purposes. By entering the premises, you acknowledge that video recording is in use.

Where audio recording is in use, your continued presence on the premises constitutes consent to such recording to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not consent to audio recording, you should notify management immediately so that reasonable accommodations may be discussed.

All recordings are maintained securely and may be used for incident documentation, dispute resolution, or as required by law.

 

Do You Offer Parking?

 

We are located in a relatively dense residential neighborhood, but street parking is usually available within a block of the property. Generally, street parking is not difficult if you arrive before 9 pm.  After 9m, Parking becomes very difficult. No permit is required for street parking (but please observe street cleaning or date-specific no-parking signs).  We do have a garage available on a first-come basis, which can be reserved for $35 per night, Spring/ Summer/ and $45 during Fall/Winter. Please reserve parking if you know you will need parking, since it is first-come, first-served. If you require garage parking, please make a request at the time you make your reservation under the "special requirements" section of the reservation form or simply email us at info@House5863.com. Parking reservations are non-refundable.

 

Are Pets Permitted?

 

No.  Pets are not permitted in the guest rooms or common areas of the Bed & Breakfast.  Service animals are the exception.  You must provide information pertaining to the service the animal provides. If needed, we can recommend several boarding options or pet "hotels" that are nearby. We do suggest Wags Hotel, as they have luxurious accommodations for pets with 24-hour camera surveillance in each pet room. Are Children Permitted?

 

Children under the age of 18 are not permitted. The minimum age for any individual to make a reservation is 21. 
 

 

Do You Have Hair Dryers?

 

Yes.  Each room is equipped with a basic hair dryer.

 

Do You Have An Iron and an Ironing Board?

 

Yes.  There is an iron and an ironing board available.  Please alert our housekeeper and the board and iron can be placed in your room at your convenience.

 

Do you video/audio record on-premises?

 

Surveillance & Property Policy Statement

Our property maintains video surveillance in select common areas (such as entrances, hallways, and lobby spaces) for the safety and security of our guests and premises. These cameras are positioned only in public areas where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy and are not installed in guest rooms or other private spaces.

Our system is configured for video monitoring. Surveillance practices are conducted in accordance with applicable laws in Illinois.

Recorded footage may be reviewed and used solely for legitimate business purposes, including security incidents, safety concerns, and the investigation of disputes.

By entering and remaining on the property, guests acknowledge the presence of video surveillance in common areas.

 

Where In Chicago Are You Located?

 

We are located just blocks from the lakefront on the north side of Chicago in the Andersonville and Edgewater neighborhoods.  We are three blocks from Chicago's Red Line and near several bus routes.  Via Lake Shore Drive, we are just a 10-15 minute drive to downtown.  We are very close to Loyola University and Northwestern University.

 

How Do I Get to House 5863?

 

Traveling from O'Hare

 

From O'Hare Airport, you can take the Blue Line to the Loop and then change trains to the Red Line.  Take the Red Line north to the Thorndale stop.  We are located two blocks west at Glenwood and Ardmore.  Traveling via the train on this route can take 45-60 minutes.  Via taxi cab, the trip takes approximately 20 minutes, depending on the time of day and weather conditions.  The CTA train costs $2.75 for a single ride.  The cost of a taxi cab via this route is approximately $50-60.

 

Traveling from Midway

 

From Midway Airport, you can take the Orange Line to the Loop and then change trains to the Red Line.  Take the Red Line north to the Thorndale stop.  We are located two blocks west at Glenwood and Ardmore.  Traveling via the train on this route can take 60-75 minutes.  Via taxi cab or ride share service, the trip takes approximately 25-45 minutes, depending upon the time of day and weather conditions.  The CTA train costs $2.75 for a single ride.  [Blue Line to city center and transfer to Red Line north toward Howard, Thorndale stop]. The cost of a taxi cab or ride share service via this route is approximately $50-75.

 

Traveling from Union Station

 

From Union Station, you can walk 15 minutes (.6 miles) to Chicago's Red Line.  Take the Red Line to Thordale Stop (40 to 45 minutes) and walk 2 1//2 blocks West on Thordale Avenue to Glenwood Avenue.  Once at Glenwood Avenue, make a left and walk to 5863 Glenwood Avenue.
