With the Loyola University campus in the north end of the neighborhood, the area attracts students and young professionals. But even with a nearby college, the area still manages to maintain its quiet suburban roots. Towards the west side of the neighborhood are more single-family homes, schools, and parks that young families frequent. Along the lake, you will find both mid and high-rise condo buildings overlooking Foster Beach and Lake Michigan. For entertainment, nearby Andersonville offers a multitude of bars and eateries that make for an exciting night out, without putting a hole in your wallet. So while you may travel outside the neighborhood confines for most of your entertainment options, Edgewater serves as a peaceful neighborhood to come home to every night. Edgewater literally hugs the water's edge, with miles of beaches, green spaces, and stunning views over Lake Michigan. Uptown is a laid-back residential area on Chicago’s Far North Side. North Broadway is known for its trendy cafes, jazz lounges and bars. Other nightlife and entertainment venues include the Uptown Theatre, the Riviera Theatre and the venerable Aragon Ballroom, which opened in 1926. In the 121-acre Graceland Cemetery are the burial sites of many famous Chicagoans. Montrose Beach has seasonal swimming and volleyball. Uptown's western-most district is primarily a residential community filled with vintage homes and apartment buildings.
